Purpose of this questionnaire
The "Test Yourself" questionnaire on this website is an educational bone health awareness tool developed by the Global Osteoporosis Foundation. It is designed to help you understand your potential risk factors for bone loss and fragility fractures, and to guide conversations with your healthcare provider.
What the questionnaire does not do
- Not a medical diagnosis: This tool does not provide a clinical diagnosis of osteoporosis or osteopenia. A formal diagnosis requires clinical evaluation and typically a dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) bone density scan.
- Not a substitute for clinical judgment: The information provided does not replace individualized advice, diagnosis, or treatment from a doctor or qualified specialist.
How questions and outcomes are assessed
The questionnaire reviews established clinical risk factors associated with low bone mineral density and fractures, including:
- Age and sex
- Previous low-trauma or fragility fractures
- Family history of osteoporosis or hip fracture
- Menopause timing and hormone levels
- Lifestyle factors (physical activity, smoking, alcohol intake)
- Use of medications associated with bone loss (such as long-term oral corticosteroids)
Based on your answers, the tool highlights relevant risk areas and suggests practical next steps, such as discussing bone health assessments with your GP.
Your data and privacy
Your questionnaire responses are processed solely to calculate and display your results. Providing an email address to receive a copy of your results is entirely optional. For full details on how we safeguard your data, see our Privacy notice.
